Vics on top despite defiant Redbacks

Victoria boasts a 173-run lead over South Australia after two days of the day/night Shield match in Adelaide.

Recent Australian one-day team call-ups Scott Boland and Adam Zampa have each grabbed a share of the spotlight at Adelaide Oval on Monday as Victoria looked best placed for victory at the end of day two against South Australia.

Victoria battled their way to 3-72 at stumps for a lead of 173, but it could have been far worse for the Redbacks against the Sheffield Shield table-topping Vics.

South Australian leg-spinner Zampa (2-11) led the way delivering some tight bowling with the pink ball under lights, with the table-topping Victoria only able to muster two runs an over during the final session.

At stumps Peter Handscomb remained not out eight, while Glenn Maxwell was on seven.

Earlier in the day, Victorian fast-bowler Boland stormed through the SA top-order taking five of the top-six wickets, and eventually settling for figures of 5-38 off 18 overs.

SA resumed at 2-42 and after nightwatchman Joe Mennie was out lbw for 19 off the bowling of Chris Tremain, Boland claimed the wickets of Sam Raphael (48) and Travis Head (10) in quick succession.

Jake Lehmann (42) and Alex Ross (34) briefly revived the Redbacks with a 62-run sixth wicket partnership, only for Boland to strike again as SA lost their last five wickets for the addition of just 38 runs.
