Vic's Tremain a hero with bat in Shield

Western Australia have ended day two 147 runs behind Victoria after bowler Chris Tremain's remarkable century for Sheffield Shield leaders Victoria.

Nightwatchman Chris Tremain hit an improbable maiden century to lift Victoria into a position of strength in their Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia in Alice Springs.

The tall fast bowler had managed a previous highest score of just 29 in 31 first class matches but hit an impressive 111 to give his side the ascendancy.

After 15 wicket fell on day one, Western Australia ended day two still 147 runs in arrears with all 10 second innings wickets in hand.

WA are 0-29 after the Vics scored 322 for a hefty 176-run first innings lead.

But the story of the day was Tremain, who shared a potentially match-winning 108-run partnership with fellow fast bowler James Pattinson (57) for the seventh wicket.

Pattinson had scored just one previous first class half century.

Tremain briefly looked likely to be stranded in the 90s with Victoria nine wickets down but two sixes brought up his century in style.

Seamer David Moody (5-59) returned the best figures for WA after running through the tail.
