First-time Victorian parents are eligible for a free baby bundle to help them navigate the first weeks of their bub's life.

About 35,000 parents are expected to get the starter kit worth $150 in the first 12 months of the $22 million state government program.

Books, a nappy bag, toothbrush, teething ring, cotton wrap, first aid kit and safe sleeping bag are included in the bundles to be delivered to public and private hospitals from July 17.

However Victorians who become parents for the first time from Monday are also eligible for the kit.

"Bringing your bundle of joy home for the first time is life changing but we also know it can be challenging," Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said.

"We are making this precious moment that little bit easier and ensuring our youngest Victorians have everything they need to thrive."
