A body has been found wrapped in cloth and a man has been stabbed to death in separate incidents in Melbourne.

Police say a man received life-threatening injuries near block of flats in Port Melbourne just before 3pm on Friday.

Despite being treated by paramedics, he died at the scene.

A 44-year-old Port Melbourne man has been arrested in relation to that death.

The pair were known to each other, according to police.

Officers have also set up a crime scene in the northern suburbs where a jogger found a body wrapped in cloth in the car park of a Dallas tennis club at 1.30pm on Friday.

The body is yet to be removed from the area as police doorknock the area and search for clues.

"The manner in which the body has been wrapped suggest that somebody else is involved, the body is near bushes but it does not appear to be any effort in concealing the location," Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen McIntyre told reporters in Dallas.

The gender, identity and cause of death of the wrapped body has yet to be determined.
