Victoria ready to burn: CFA

A total fire ban day has been declared in parts of Victoria, with the CFA warning the state is dry and ready to burn.

Victoria hasn't built a usable fire refuge since the Black Saturday bushfires, a report has found.

A high fire danger rating and temperatures in the 30s have prompted a total fire ban day in north eastern Victoria.

The state is dry and ready to burn according to fire authorities.

"With conditions worsening it's important victorians are vigilant on Monday, as any fire which starts, in the north east in particular, will be difficult to control," CFA chief officer Euan Ferguson said.

The ban prevents fires being lit in open areas, including campfires.

"With thousands of Victorians taking a break and heading to the bush it's critical visitors understand their surroundings and the fire danger and plan accordingly," Mr Ferguson said.

Last week more than 350 fires were started by lightning alone, the CFA says.
