Victorian anti-vax doctor suspended

A rogue Victorian doctor who helped parents avoid compulsory vaccination for their children has been suspended by the medical board.

A rogue anti-vaccination doctor in Victoria who helped parents dodge compulsory jabs for their children has been suspended by medical authorities.

Mitcham GP Dr John Piesse had his medical registration suspended on Thursday by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency after a meeting.

Before the suspension the doctor had previously agreed to stop practising as an interim measure.

In a video from an anti-vaccination event published in August by the Herald Sun, Dr Piesse explained how he tried to get around the "no jab, no play laws".

"I am a doctor who has been working hard for 18 months to try and help parents get exemption from 'vaccinated pain for vaccinated play', with mixed success," he said in the video.

A woman from Dr Piesse's clinic said they had been "supporting" 600 families thanks to his work.

After news of the investigation into Dr Piesse broke, the anti-vaxxer community launched a fundraiser to raise $100,000 to help him retain his medical registration.

The investigation into the doctor by the board continues.
