PRAHAN - Melbourne

Sam Hibbins, Greens, 0.4% margin

A three-way battle between the Greens, Labor's Neil Pharaoh and the Liberals' Katie Allen. Prahan came down to just a few votes in 2014; the Hibbins won by preferences, the Liberals got 45% of first preferences and Pharaoh got a higher percentage of first preferences.

RICHMOND - Melbourne

Richard Wynne, Labor, 1.9% margin

A left-leaning seat, the Liberals abandoned running a candidate in a move to punish Labor over its rorts-for-votes scandal. The battle with Greens candidate Kathleen Maltzahn could unseat the longer-standing member and planning minister. He's not helped by being listed last on the ballot behind seven others.

MORWELL - Latrobe Valley

Russell Northe, independent, 1.8% margin

Nationals-turned-independent Northe left the party last year amid personal issues and a dispute over party cash. He's running against Liberal Dale Harriman, Nationals' Sheridan Bond, Labor's Mark Richards and former senator Ricky Muir who is running for the Shooters Fishers and Farmers.

BRUNSWICK - Melbourne

Jane Garrett, Labor, 2.2% margin

The Greens have been making increasing headway in Melbourne's inner city seats for years including Brunswick. Garrett is seeking sanctuary in the upper house, leaving union organiser Cindy O'Connor to defend the seat for Labor against the Greens' Tim Read. While comedian and writer Catherine Deveny for Fiona Patten's Reason Party also threw her hat into the ring.

SHEPPARTON - Goulburn Valley

Suzanna Sheed, indepedent, 2.6% margin

The Liberal-Nationals coalition will be hoping to claw back Shepparton in a race between Sheed, the Nationals' Peter Schwartz, Liberal Cheryl Hammer and Labor's Bill Heath.

RIPON - Western Victoria

Louise Staley, Liberal, 0.8% margin

Staley won the seat thanks to preferences on a tiny margin and will be defending it against Labor's Sarah DeSantis, who has had a party throw resources at the seat. There's 10 candidates in total for the seat.

FRANKSTON - Southeast Melbourne

Paul Edbrooke, Labor, 0.5% margin

First-time MP and former firefighter Edbrooke is last on the ballot and up against longstanding police officer Michael Lamb in a battle highlighting two issues which have dominated Victorian politics - crime and the firefighters pay dispute.

CARRUM - Southeast Melbourne

Sonya Kilkenny, Labor, 0.7%

Former Liberal sitting member Donna Bauer has her sights set on reclaiming her old district in a rematch of 2014 between the two women, with Bauer second on the ballot to Kilkenny's sixth.

BENTLEIGH - Southeast Melbourne

Nick Staikos, Labor, 0.8% margin

A marginal sandbelt seat, Staikos is up against Liberal candidate Asher Judah in a seat which has regularly changed hands and has 10 names on the ballot.

GEELONG - Southwest Victoria

Christine Couzens, Labor, 6% margin

While Couzens has a fairly comfortable margin, former Geelong mayor, paparazzi king and colourful man-about-town Darryn Lyons is challenging her as an independent. Touring in a hot-pink truck and with an axe to grind after his council was sacked by the Andrews government, Lyons has been a noisy combatant. The pair are the last names on the ballot with Liberal Freya Fidge up top.
