A man is dead and another has been left with serious facial and abdominal injuries following a crash with a minibus in Victoria.

Police say a sedan was driving west along Mount Dundeed Road, near Geelong, about 9am on Sunday when it collided head-on with a minibus, which overturned.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley said the man died at the scene, while another man in the car, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance suffering from facial and abdominal injuries.

The minibus was carrying 25 tourists at the time, with five taken to Geelong Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

The rest were taken to Geelong Hospital by bus for assessment.

The 2015 Victorian death toll now stands at 223, five more than this time last year.
