A Melbourne teenager missing on what's believed to be a lone walk to Uluru has been found at a South Australian airport.

Bartholomew (Barton) Griffith, 18, was last seen near Vite Vite, 180km west of Melbourne, on Thursday, wearing a green towel around his head, thongs on his feet and was carrying a backpack, Victorian police said.

It was feared he was attempting to walk to Uluru but was ill-equipped for the journey.

SA police found Mr Griffith safe and well at Mount Gambier Airport, they later revealed.
