Residents in Victoria's southwest are preparing for possible major flooding with the Glenelg River expected to peak overnight.
The SES says 10 homes and businesses could be inundated when the river likely exceeds six metres about 3am on Sunday.
"The peak might put the Glenelg into major flood level and that will mean some properties could potentially be impacted," an SES spokeswoman told AAP.
An emergency meeting was held at Casterton's town hall on Saturday afternoon.
The SES has also visited the homes under threat and warned residents of the potential for major flooding.
Elsewhere there's a moderate flood warning in place for the Murray River at Corowa and moderate flooding of the King River at Docker Road near Wangaratta.
Near Romsey on Saturday an elderly cattle farmer had to swim to safety after his 4WD was swept away by flood waters.
Herbert Bettels pulled himself out of the window to escape and his two dogs followed - but were then left stranded on the roof.
"The two dogs ended up on the roof of the car and were eventually rescued by some local farmers," the SES spokeswoman said.
The Bureau of Meterology said Victoria should receive some respite from the rain over the next 24 hours but then it will get wet again.
"We do have another cold front that will reach southwest Victoria late on Sunday," senior forecaster Chris Godfred told AAP on Saturday.
"But for the next 24 hours it should be largely dry across most of the state."
The BOM is predicting another band of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday that could lead to further decent rainfalls inland.
