Victoria's cold snap set to continue

No more snow falls are expected for the weekend, but Victoria's cold temperatures are forecast to continue.

Snow falls across Victoria are expected to hold off for a few days after a cold snap blanketed the country's southeast's alpine areas.

Snow fell near Lorne and Ballarat on Friday, as Melbourne shivered through one of its coldest June days in 20 years.

On Saturday, Melbourne reached 12.7C by 2.30pm and light rain had been recorded in parts of the metropolitan area.

Black ice on the road was blamed for a crash that killed a woman, 39, and man, 41, after the car they were in left the Midland Highway and hit a tree in Daylesford on Saturday morning.

The weather is also being partly blamed for Collingwood recording its worst MCG crowd in 76 years for their game against Fremantle on Friday night.

Only 20,320 fans braved the cold, wet weather.

In country NSW, snow and ice banked up on roads forced the closure of Great Western Highway between Yetholme and Marangaroo, west of Lithgow, New England Highway between Armidale and Glenn Innes, as well as local roads in Oberon and Jenolan on Saturday.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Rod Dickson said the next few days in Melbourne would be cold, but there would be no more snow until about Thursday in the alpine regions.

Tuesday - min 7, max 14 becoming cloudy

Wednesday - min 6, max 13 possible shower
