A bus driver in the Indian state of Karnataka has been suspended after he let a monkey "drive" a bus during his watch.

According to witnesses, the langur monkey boarded the bus with another passenger and decided to sit with the driver, known only as Mr Prakash, while he drove around Davanagere.

Mr Prakash, as well as the 30-or-so passengers, seemed not to be concerned as the monkey took control of the wheel.

But the driver's employer took action after the gained attention on social media.

The safety of passengers cannot be put at risk by "allowing a monkey on the steering" wheel, a spokesman from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) told Asian News International (ANI) news agency.

The department said it was looking into the incident due to the number of calls they were receiving.

The monkey eventually left the driver to carry on with his day, according to reports.

Some people on social media saw it as a dangerous move while others saw a lighter side.
