A Ho Chi Minh Court has sentenced a former bank executive to 30 years in prison over a multimillion-dollar embezzlement scandal, state media reports.
Hua Thi Phan, the 71-year-old former chief adviser of Vietnam Construction Bank, was sentenced on Thursday after she was convicted of "abuse of confidence to expropriate assets" and "deliberate infringement of the government's regulations on economic management," the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported on Saturday.
She was indicated for multiple economic crimes, including pocketing most of a loan destined for a real estate investor, leaving the client with only around a fourth of the money, but responsible for the entire sum.
Phan was also found to have oversold a house to the bank, keeping the $US48.62 million ($A64.24 million) difference from the market value for herself.
