Vietnamese asylum seekers in custody in PNG

The fate of a group of 15 Vietnamese asylum seekers reportedly intercepted near Papua New Guinea is unclear.

A group of 15 Vietnamese asylum seekers, whose boat was reportedly intercepted by Australian authorities, is in custody in Port Moresby.

The group was flown from Vanimo to the Papua New Guinean capital and handed over to the International Organisation for Migration last Thursday following unconfirmed reports they were on the intercepted asylum-seeker boat.

Australian Border Force referred inquiries to the PNG government, which has also been contacted for comment.
