Refugee advocates will hold a vigil outside Federal Immigration Minister Peter Dutton's Queensland electorate office for an asylum seeker who died in Brisbane on Christmas Eve.

Faysal Ishak Ahmed, 27, died at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Saturday after being airlifted from Manus Island in Papua New Guinea the day before.

The vigil will be held on Thursday outside Mr Dutton's electorate office in Strathpine, north of Brisbane.

Refugee advocates say Mr Ahmed's death shouldn't be overlooked over the Christmas holidays.

"Faysal was not just a number or a statistic," Mark Gillespie, one of the vigil organisers, said in a statement.

"He was someone's son, brother and friend. He was 27 years old and had his whole life before him."

Refugee advocates have been in contact with Mr Ahmed's family, who have spent three days mourning his death in Sudan.

Fellow detainees have claimed he suffered seizures, heart problems and headaches for weeks but was not treated by the centre's medical staff.

Mr Ahmed's death follows that of Iranian asylum seeker Hamid Kehazei who died from septicaemia in a Brisbane's Mater Hospital in September 2014, two weeks after initially being treated for a cut foot on Manus.

An inquest into his death has heard Mr Kehazaei was denied hospital treatment that might have saved his life because of visa issues and that medical facilities on Manus were inadequate.

The Department of Immigration has said Mr Ahmed died from injuries suffered after a fall and suffering a seizure.

"The department is not aware of any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and expresses its sympathies to his family and friends," it said in a statement.
