Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson is expected to make his long-awaited NFL return from injury against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Vikings have officially activated Peterson from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's (Monday AEDT) match.
Peterson returned to training this week ahead of the Colts' game which takes place three months to the day since he suffered a torn meniscus against Green Bay in week two.
He is the Vikings' career rushing leader with 11,725 yards and has 97 touchdowns on 2412 carries and the 31-year-old has won the league rushing title three times.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers provided themselves with insurance by promoting rookie quarterback Joe Callahan to the active roster.

Starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to play in Sunday's game against the NFC North rival Chicago Bears despite being plagued by a calf injury.
Brett Hundley is the team's back-up, but the inclusion of Callahan provides Green Bay with flexibility.
Rodgers will test his ailing calf in pre-game warm-ups and the Packers could make Callahan inactive as a result.
Carolina quarterback Cam Newton has been cleared to play against Washington on Sunday.
Newton underwent an MRI exam earlier in the week due to soreness in his throwing shoulder, but Carolina coach Ron Rivera said the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player was good to go after training on Saturday.
