A male detainee at Sydney's Villawood Immigration Detention Centre has been rushed to hospital after a medical emergency.

A source told AAP a man was taken from the detention centre to a nearby hospital after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest on Tuesday.

A video, believed to have been shot inside the western Sydney detention centre and seen by AAP, shows paramedics working on a person on the ground in a large yard.

It shows detainees gathering around as a stretcher is prepared to transport the man.

Messages from a person close to a detainee, also seen by AAP, claim a 30-year-old man collapsed suddenly on Tuesday afternoon and died.

But an ABF spokeswoman said "there has been no death" at the centre.

"One detainee was taken to hospital due to an ongoing medical condition and is receiving appropriate medical care," the spokeswoman said in a statement on Wednesday.

"We cannot comment further on individual cases."
