A woman posing in a flowing dress against a beach backdrop and a child on a donkey are just some of the retro family photos police have uncovered among stolen goods in a Melbourne home.

War medals and coins, some of which appear to date back to World War I, were also uncovered in a raid on a Werribee home on August 31, police say.

A framed group shot of the Australian flying Corps from 1918 was the only photo that had some labelling.

Police believe the find has very high sentimental value.

They have released images of the photos and coins and medals on Thursday hoping the owners will come forward.

Guns and drugs were also seized at the house and a 28-year-old Werribee man charged with offences including theft and possessing proceeds of crime.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.
