Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has been charged with violent conduct for a challenge on Southampton's Shane Long, the English Football Association has announced.

Alonso appeared to come down on Long's calf in the first half of Chelsea's 3-2 EPL win on Saturday.

The incident was not seen by the match officials and the FA said in a statement that retrospective action was taken after a video review.

Alonso faces a three-match ban which would cause him to miss Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton and the Premier League games against Burnley and Swansea.
