Vitamin D doesn't help brain health: study

South Australian researchers have concluded vitamin D doesn't protect against brain disorders.

There is no evidence that vitamin D protects against brain disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's, Adelaide researchers say.

The report, released on Tuesday in the science journal 'Nutritional Neuroscience', found there was no clinical evidence that vitamin D was a protective neurological agent, after a review of more than 70 pre-clinical and clinical studies.

"Our work counters an emerging belief held in some quarters suggesting that higher levels of vitamin D can impact positively on brain health," lead author Krystal Iacopetta, PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide said.
