Scoring a Test century in front of family and friends was the last thing on Adam Voges' mind this time last year.
Hell, the prospect of a Test call-up seemed fanciful for Western Australia's captain.
The 36-year-old was called into Australia's Test squad for the 2006 Ashes clash at the WACA.
It was the closest Voges came to being handed a baggy green until this year, when he toured the West Indies and scored a hundred on debut.
Voges has stayed in the Test XI since despite some disappointing displays in this year's Ashes, allowing him to play a dream Test in Perth.
Voges made it count on Monday, delivering a ton on day four of the second Test against New Zealand.
"There were certainly times that I thought this would never happen," Voges said.
"The older you get probably (the more) you feel your chances slipping away.
"At this late stage of my career, to be able to get these opportunities and then to make the most of it ... it's something I'll look back on at the end of my career and be very fond of."
Voges made sure he picked out wife Kristy and his two children in the crowd while celebrating the milestone, which came in the second last over of the day.
Speaking to the press after day four, he was still in disbelief.
"Very, very special. It probably doesn't get much better than this," he said.
"To be here in front of friends and family - I'm a bit lost for words really."
Voges, who scored a record-breaking 1358 runs in the 2014-15 Sheffield Shield season, was proud of the way he'd earned a call-up.
"I had to go away and score the (number) of runs I did to get the opportunity." he said.
"That's how it should be."
He will resume on 101 when day five of the second Test against New Zealand starts in Perth.
Steve Smith, who is 131 not out, would have had a sleepless night mulling the timing of a declaration.
"I don't think we will do them any favours," Voges said.
