Volcano grounds Bali flights again

Australians in Bali will remain grounded with unfavourable flying conditions prompting the cancellation of the majority of recovery services.

The majority of recovery flights from Bali have been cancelled due to deteriorated flying conditions.

With Mt Rinjani in Lombok continuing to erupt, Virgin Australia cancelled all scheduled flights including recovery services from Bali on Friday and all flights to Bali on Saturday and Sunday.

Jetstar cancelled the majority of Friday's recovery services from Bali but said an afternoon recovery flight from Bali to Darwin is still under review.

More than 3000 passengers returned home to Australia on 14 recovery flights during a window of favourable conditions on Wednesday and Thursday, Jetstar said in a statement.

The airline will provide an update regarding Saturday flights on Friday evening.
