Vonn's ski bid to race the men still alive

Winter Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn's desire to race against the men remains a possibility after support from the US Ski and Snowboard Association.

Lindsey Vonn's quest to race against the men in a World Cup ski event is on hold.

US Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) presented its proposal to the International Ski Federation's Alpine executive board on Tuesday, with the topic being tabled until the spring.

Vonn -- the most successful female World Cup racer and 2010 Winter Olympic champion -- is hoping to compete in a downhill versus the men during the 2018-19 season.

The US petitioned FIS on her behalf.

"There is support for the proposal among members of the executive board but also many points to clarify with FIS," USSA alpine director Patrick Riml said.

The proposal will be addressed in mid-May.

With 77 World Cup wins, Vonn is chasing the mark of 86 held by Ingemar Stenmark.

Her focus also is on the Pyeongchang Olympics in February.
