WA Alcoa workers walk off the job

The AWU says 1600 workers at two bauxite mines and three refineries in WA have walked off the job after Alcoa refused to offer job security in a new EBA.

Alcoa workers at two bauxite mines and three refineries in Western Australia have walked off the job after trying to negotiate a new enterprise bargaining agreement over 20 months.

The Australian Workers' Union says 1600 workers at the Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup refineries and Huntley and Willowdale bauxite mines have walked out indefinitely.

The union says the company has refused to offer them "any level of job security" in a new agreement and applied to the Fair Work Commission to terminate the current agreement.
