WA beautician jailed for sex offences

A Perth beautician will spend at least two years and eight months behind bars for sexual offences against six clients.

A male beautician in Perth has been jailed for more than four years for touching clients' genitals during hair removal treatments.

Don Chaminda Prabath Subasinghe, 43, was found guilty after a trial in October of seven counts of sexual penetration without consent against six women.

The West Australian District Court was told on Monday that the offences occurred at the Cut N Curl Beauty Salon in south suburban Canning Vale in late 2010 and early 2011.

Subasinghe was performing a Brazilian treatment using IPL - a hair removal technique - when he committed the offences.

The court previously heard many women did not immediately complain and most were contacted by police after two initial complaints.

Subasinghe's lawyer Tom Percy asked on Monday for the sentencing to be delayed due to his client's ill health, but the judge rejected the idea.

In sentencing, Judge Stephen Scott said IPL was by its nature an invasive treatment and each victim trusted Subasinghe to be professional.

"Each of these victims were violated in a sexual way by you," he told Subasinghe.

"There was a degree of deception on your part."

Judge Scott said it was prolonged and for Subasinghe's own sexual gratification.

He sentenced Subasinghe to four years and eight months behind bars.

Subasinghe must serve two years and eight months before being eligible for parole.
