WA build big lead over NSW in Shield

Western Australia have a 195-run first-innings lead over NSW after declaring at dinner on day three of their day-night Sheffield Shield match in Perth.

Western Australia remain firmly in charge at the dinner break on Tuesday's third day of the day-night Sheffield Shield clash with NSW at the WACA Ground.

WA went through the first session without losing a wicket as Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner put together a 170-run stand.

That partnership came to an end shortly after tea with Bancroft dismissed for 144. Turner appeared on track for his maiden century soon after but fell agonisingly short on 96.

The Warriors pressed on, looking for quick runs, and went to the dinner interval, declaring at 8-511, with a lead over the Blues of 195 runs. Hilton Cartwright was not out 59 and Michael Hogan was on seven.

NSW will bat in the final session under lights, trying to secure a draw on the final day. They are down a man, though, with Steve O'Keefe out of the game with a fractured finger that requires surgery.

WA began the day on 3-247 after a 205-run stand between Marcus Harris (120) and Bancroft.

Bancroft's sixth first-class century took 454 minutes and came off 340 deliveries. Turner was unlucky to miss his maiden ton, caught down the leg side off Trent Copeland.

Sam Whiteman then made a quick-fire 37 from 27 balls with eight fours and Cartwright continued on to post a half-century.
