WA cop charged with assault, stood down

A Western Australian police officer has been stood down after being charged with assault.

A police officer has been stood down after being charged with assault while on the job in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

The 41-year-old senior constable, who worked at the South Hedland police station, is accused of assault and assault occasioning bodily harm after the incident in January, authorities say.

He will appear in the South Hedland Magistrates Court on August 27.
