The WACA Ground could become the WA home of both cricket and football facilities in the future, with the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) considering moving into the iconic cricket venue.

The Western Australian Cricket Association and WAFC have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to investigate the potential development of shared training and administration facilities at the WACA.

With the new Perth Stadium to open in 2018, the WACA plans to undergo a $200 million redevelopment to become a boutique stadium, holding up to 15,000 people.

Although blockbuster cricket matches will be moved to Perth Stadium, the WACA will still host some ODI and Test action, along with Sheffield Shield cricket.

The WACA is keen for WAFL football to return to the ground, and the MOU has paved the way for West Australian football to explore that possibility.

The WAFC is currently housed at Domain Stadium, which faces an uncertain future once the Perth Stadium opens.
