WA govt criticises delay to GST report

WA Acting Premier Roger Cook has criticised the federal government for delaying reforms of the GST system that were due to be recommended this month.

The Western Australia Labor government has criticised the federal government for allowing a delay to reforms of the GST system, saying it is "politically inconvenient" and will deny justice given WA gets the lowest share in the nation.

The Productivity Commission had been due to hand report this month recommending changes to the carve-up of GST but Treasurer Scott Morrison has extended the deadline to May 15, a week after the federal budget.

"I take those (Mr Morrison's) comments on face value but it is extraordinarily politically convenient for them to have this delay," said Acting Premier Roger Cook, whose government is pushing for a GST floor to protect WA, which gets back 34 cents in the dollar.
