A Perth grandfather has been found guilty of using a tomahawk and kitchen knife to murder his estranged wife's new partner, attempting to kill her and injuring two neighbours who intervened.
Etem Duga, 76, had been married to Vickie Fidel for more than 40 years in 2016 when she left him, obtained a violence restraining order and started dating 73-year-old Philip Fidel, whom she had met at the gym.
Duga stood trial in the West Australian Supreme Court and on Friday the jury found him guilty of murdering Mr Fidel, attempting to murder Ms Fidel and neighbour John Jacobs, and endangering the life or safety of fellow neighbour Rupert Rudd.
Duga barged into the couple's Yokine unit after Mr Fidel opened the door and attacked them with the tomahawk and knife.
One blow went through to Mr Fidel's brain and he had a total of 18 incision injuries.

Duga then turned on his ex-wife, nearly cutting off her ring finger and hitting her in the back with the tomahawk as she fled outside screaming.
Duga chased her and when Mr Rudd refused to get out of the way, Duga struck him in the cheek with the tomahawk.
Mr Jacobs took Ms Fidel into his unit where he smashed a ceramic bowl on Duga's head in a failed attempt to deter him, then Duga stabbed Mr Jacobs in the chest.
The injured man helped pin Duga down until police arrived.
During his testimony, Duga claimed he went to the unit to confirm his ex was living there so he could move back into their Dianella home. He said he also wanted to return her gym towel.
Duga denied prosecutor Simon Freitag's allegation he was pretending to be a delivery man by wearing a high-vis top and had the towel in a box so he could trick Mr Fidel into opening the door.
He also rejected assertions he was "blind with rage, frustration and jealousy" and wanted revenge.
Duga claimed his ex tried to hit him with the tomahawk but accidentally struck her partner's head three times.
He admitted hitting Mr Fidel at least once after gaining control of the weapon.
"I felt very upset, so confused," he testified.
"I was terrified ... I thought 'they're going to kill me'."
Duga will face a sentencing hearing in February.
Ms Fidel later took on her slain partner's name.
