Labor has been returned to power in Western Australia after eight years in opposition.

ABC election expert Antony Green says the party had reached the 30 seat mark which will allow Mark McGowan to form majority government in the 59-seat parliament.

Mr Green expects Labor to win 33 seats overall, but as of 7.30pm he believed the party had won 30

"At this stage I think we can declare that the Labor Party will win this election at this stage," he said.

WA Labor figure and former federal leader Kim Beazley told Nine he was calling the election for Labor.

"There will be a lot of very happy people tonight," Mr Beazley said.

He said Mr McGowan had put in the hard yards and deserved the win.

At the official Labor function, a large cheer went up and some cried tears of joy and embraced as political analysts started calling the election for the party amid a huge swing.
