WA Labor pledges $22m to cut youth crime

WA Labor has pledged $22 million for a program aimed at reducing crime and preventing youths from dysfunctional families from reoffending.

The worst 120 juvenile offenders and their families in Western Australia will be targeted under a $22 million election promise from the opposition aimed at reducing crime and preventing young people from reoffending.

Under Labor's Target 120 program, a support person would be assigned to each dysfunctional family to coordinate services from agencies including police, health, education, sport and recreation, corrective services and child protection.

But Corrective Services Minister Joe Francis said there was already a go-to person for troubled families and the state government had made a similar announcement to Labor's pledge two weeks ago.
