A man and woman have been questioned over the disappearance of a meerkitten from Perth Zoo after the newborn was recovered from a home in the suburb of Beverley.
The one-month old meerkat was found two days after it vanished, with staff unsure whether it was stolen or snatched by a predatory bird.
Western Australian Police on Saturday announced they found the meerkitten during a search of the home east of Perth and had questioned a man and woman.
Senior veterinarian Simone Vitali said staff were excited but apprehensive when they heard the news, as meerkat babies don't do well away from their mothers.
The baby had just started venturing out of its nest box when it vanished.
Zoo staff think the unnamed meerkitten is male but won't know with certainty for about a month.
Although the meerkitten has bounced back and has been doing well, it wasn't out of the woods yet as there was a its mob could reject him.
"We've still got to get him back with the group and hope that they accept him as one of theirs," Dr Vitali said.
The one-month-old had staff monitoring it throughout the day of its disappearance and was last seen 30 minutes before evening checks.
