WA political parties collect $8.3 million

WA political parties collected almost $8.3 million in gifts and other income this year, with the Liberals leading the way.

West Australian political parties collected almost $8.3 million in gifts and other income in 2014-15, but it was a massive $10 million drop on the previous year, records show.

With the exception of the Vasse by-election, it was a generally quieter year compared to the 2013-14 period when there was a federal poll and senate election re-run.

WA Electoral Commission records showed the Liberals collected more than $4.1 million this year, compared to $9.9 million in 2013-14.

Labor declared receipts of more than $2.5 million, against $3.5 million the previous year.

The Greens received more than $600,000 this year, dropping from almost $3.2 million in the previous year.

The Nationals declared more than $800,000, which was a fall from almost $1.3 million.

But the Liberals' fundraising bodies fared well, with the 500 Club collecting more than $830,000, while the Sir Charles Court Foundation declared receipts of more than $126,000.

It puts the party in a strong financial position in the lead-up to a federal election next year and state election in 2017.

United Voice, The Transport Workers Union and the WA Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association were big contributors for Labor.

It also received $22,000 from Crown Perth, $14,850 from Chevron Australia and $13,200 from Ramsay Health Care.
