WA premier's popularity slides in new poll

Western Australia's Premier Colin Barnett is facing worsening popularity polls, as Labor's support continues to improve according to the latest Newspoll.

Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett's personal popularity has slumped to a record low as Labor extends its lead over the Liberals in the latest Newspoll.

The Australian reports voter satisfaction with Mr Barnett has dropped to 31 per cent, while 58 per cent were dissatisfied, giving the premier a negative net satisfaction rating of 27, one of the lowest Newspoll rankings ever recorded for an Australian premier.

On a two-party-preferred basis, Labor was 54 per cent, to the Liberal-Nationals' 46 per cent.

The state government delivers its budget on Thursday and heads to the polls in 2017.
