WA residents warned of bushfire threat

Bushfire conditions at Kununurra in Western Australia are still considered dangerous and unpredictable, with people urged to leave or defend their homes.

A bushfire continues to burn uncontrolled and remains unpredictable as it threatens lives and homes in northern Western Australia.

A watch and act warning is in place for residents of eastern Kununurra including Lakeside Park Estate, emergency services say.

Local residents have been urged to leave the area if they are not prepared to actively defend their homes.

Some roads have been closed with smoke reducing visibility and people have been urged not to try to return with conditions described as very dangerous.

Firefighters are on the scene and are working to strengthen containment lines.
