WA signs up to national disability scheme

Western Australia has become the final state to officially join the federal National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Every single state and territory has now joined the national disability insurance scheme, with holdout Western Australia signing up on Saturday.

Minister for Social Services Dan Tehan announced the milestone, which will see the National Disability Insurance Agency assume responsibility for administering the scheme in WA from July 1.

"The NDIS will be life-changing for Western Australian participants, by supporting people with disability, their families, and carers to play a greater role in their communities," Mr Tehan said in a statement on Saturday.

With its fifth anniversary on Sunday, Mr Tehan said the scheme continued to transform the lives of nearly 200,000 Australians.

45,000 people were now receiving support on the NDIS for the first time, while 14, 271 service providers had registered to deliver their support.

The scheme has tracked within budget every year while maintaining high satisfaction ratings, Mr Tehan claimed.

"The NDIS is a world first and not without its challenges. These challenges can and will be overcome with a united approach," he said.

"Supporting every Australian to live their best life is a noble ambition, and it is why working together to implement the NDIS is so important."
