A further 60 government-funded residential rehabilitation treatment beds for drug and alcohol users will be available from January 2017, WA Mental Health Minister Andrea Mitchell has confirmed.
An extra 28 beds will open in the metropolitan Perth area while the South-West, Goldfields, Mid-West and Pilbara regions will get 32 beds.
Ms Mitchell acknowledged there was no "one-size-fits-all" treatment and that best outcomes occurred when it matched specific needs of individuals.
"For some people, that treatment is residential rehabilitation; for others it is early intervention to avoid the need for residential care or rehabilitation within the community with the help of dedicated support services."
As part of their $14.9 million methylamphetamine strategy, the Liberal National government launched a 24-hour helpline in September, which Ms Mitchell said had been well received.
The 2013 national drug strategy household survey found 3.8 per cent of West Australians were ice users, about double the national average.
Ms Mitchell has expressed her support for Shalom House, a community-run residential rehab centre for men in the Swan Valley, which is involved in a court battle to remain open based on planning grounds.
"I value what they do and the outcomes they achieve... my greatest wish is the City of Swan can resolve this matter quickly," she told 6PR radio.
