The carcass of a whale has been removed from a beach in Western Australia's South West, prompting a warning to swimmers over a possible increase in sharks.

A whale carcass has washed up on a beach in Western Australia's South West region, sparking a warning over sharks in the area.

The whale was found at the northern end of Yallingup beach on Wednesday morning.

The carcass was removed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife, which warned sharks could be attracted to the area for the next few days.

The department has urged swimmers to take extra care in the water and to regularly check the SharkSmart website.
