Wallaby Kuridrani back in Brumbies trial

David Pocock and a host of Wallabies won't play for the Brumbies in their trial against the Melbourne Rebels but there's a welcome return for Tevita Kuridrani.

Tevita Kuridrani makes a long-awaited return from injury but the Brumbies have rested fellow Wallabies star David Pocock from their season-opening trial match against the Melbourne Rebels.

Centre Kuridrani hasn't played since surgery after tearing a pectoral muscle during a Super Rugby match against the NSW Waratahs six months ago, his presence and 58 Tests of experience sorely missed at international level.

A host of 2018 Wallabies will skip the trial at Viking Park in Canberra on Saturday, including Pocock.

The world-class openside flanker was dogged by neck problems last year and was forced to miss the season-ending Test against England at Twickenham.

Brumbies coach Dan McKellar will field a host of notable new faces, including 80-cap Wallabies prop James Slipper, who left the Queensland Reds following a season blighted by a two-month ban after testing positive for cocaine.

Former Chiefs flyer Toni Pulu will make his first appearance on the wing while another Kiwi-born back, inside centre Irae Simone, will wear No.12 after leaving the Waratahs.

Back-rower Lachlan McCaffrey will captain the side while Wallabies lock Sam Carter is named on an extended reserves bench.

BRUMBIES STARTING XV

Jordan Jackson-Hope, Toni Pulu, Tevita Kuridrani, Irae Simone, Lausii Taliauli, Wharenui Hawera, Joe Powell, Lachlan McCaffrey (capt), Tom Cusack, Rob Valetini, Blake Enever, Darcy Swain, Leslie Leuluaialii-Makin, Josh Mann-Rea, James Slipper.
