A wallaby frantically swimming in Sydney Harbour has been hauled to safety by the crew of Manly Fast Ferry.

Footage on social media emerged of the wallaby swimming approximately a hundred metres off Manly beach on Wednesday at 7pm.

As the small marsupial slowly made its way towards land, crew members helped haul the wallaby on board with a rope and a pole to the excitement of onlookers.

The wallaby was then wrapped in a blanket and treated by volunteers from Sydney Wildlife.

The incident comes just two weeks after a wallaby stopped traffic on the Sydney Harbour Bridge as police attempted to catch the elusive marsupial.

The footage of police chasing 'Syd' the wallaby in the early hours of the morning on January 16 made headlines around the world.

Syd was taken to Taronga Wildlife Hospital before he was eventually released at Ku-ring-gai National Park a week later.
