NSW Waratahs hooker Tolu Latu has copped a one-match ban for punching Brumbies star Matt Toomua in Saturday night's fiery Super Rugby derby in Canberra.

The suspension was handed down on Sunday night but Latu won't miss any games for the Waratahs who have a bye next weekend.

SANZAAR accepted that back-up hooker Latu was one of several Waratahs scheduled to play club rugby next weekend in Sydney, allowing him to serve the ban by missing that match.

It means Latu will be available for the Waratahs' next clash with the defending champion Highlanders in Sydney on March 18.

Tongan-born Latu's availability for the Highlanders match will come as a relief to the Waratahs who have lost starting hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau for up to two months due to a fractured arm suffered against the Brumbies.
