Warner Bros buys Dutch company Eyeworks

Warner Bros Television Group has bought Dutch movie and television producer Eyeworks, for an undisclosed sum, to strengthen its global position.

Warner Bros says it has bought Dutch movie and television producer Eyeworks, as the US entertainment giant seeks to increase its global production footprint.

"Today, Warner Bros Television Group announces that it has reached an agreement with Eyeworks to buy all its businesses except in the United States," Warner Bros and the Amsterdam-based Eyeworks said in a combined statement on Tuesday.

Eyeworks, founded in 2001 by Dutch soap actor and current chief executive Reinout Oerlemans, has produced a number of international hits including reality shows Obese, Reality Queens of the Jungle and Celebrity Splash.

The two companies did not put an amount on the deal but last month Dutch media reports said Warner Bros was reportedly offering around 200 million euros ($A307.10 million).

The latest takeover fitted Warner Bros' television strategy, the companies said.

"Thirteen new countries will be added to Warner Bros' production network," it said.

The deal "is an important step in Warner Bros' strategy to strengthen its position in the global television industry," added Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros Entertainment chief executive.

The latest takeover follows other deals in which Warner Bros bought British-based Shed Media in 2010 and Dutch-Belgian company BlazHoffski in 2011.
