Batsmen David Warner and Travis Head have set an Australian record for the highest opening partnership in one-day international cricket.

The lefthanders plundered Pakistan in Thursday's ODI at Adelaide Oval, reaching 0-247 from 37 overs. The partnership is continuing.

Their effort eclipsed the previous Australian opening partnership benchmark of 246, set by Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh against minnows Scotland in 2013.

The world record opening ODI stand is 286, by Sri Lankans Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga against England in 2006.
