Warner leads Hyderabad to IPL qualifier

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner says he's "ecstatic" over his side's 22-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders to go through to a qualifier.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner says "fantastic" bowling and spectacular catches in the outfield took his side to a 22-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in their Indian Premier League match on Wednesday night.

The eliminator result in Delhi means Kolkata are now out of the competition while Hyderabad go on to play the Gujarat Lions in a qualifier on Friday night to determine who plays in the final on Monday.

The Sunrisers had lost to the Knight Riders twice in the league season but in the match that counted their result was 8-162 to the Kolkata's 8-140.

A risky bit of running which led to the run-out of Kolkata's Colin Munro turned the match on its head after the Knight Riders appeared to be in control in the steady partnership of the New Zealander and Gautam Gambhir.

Australian Moises Henriques was man of the match for his all-round performance, getting 31 runs, including two sixes and a four, and taking two wickets for 17 in three overs.

He and Warner made a 59-run stand with the skipper scoring 28 runs, including three fours.

Sunrisers' Yuvraj Singh scored most runs in the match with 44, including eight fours and a six.

Australian fast bowler Ben Cutting, meanwhile, took one wicket in three overs for Hyderabad.

"We fielded well and that's what we set out to do," Warner said.

"If you can field well, you will defend those close games.

"The way the bowlers bowled was fantastic. We took some spectacular catches in the outfield. Both us and Gujarat have strike power and it's going to be a great contest.

"I'm ecstatic as a captain. It's all about executing our plans."

For Hyderabad, Kuldeep Yadav was the most successful bowler, dismissing Warner and Henriques with consecutive deliveries, then adding the wicket of Cutting to his tally to finish with figures of 3-35.

Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir said his team were very confident going into the game and he thought 163 was a chaseable total.

"Colin's run-out was the turning point. I thought we didn't get any big partnerships.

"We should have chased it down on this wicket. Our batters didn't live up to the expectations. We always know that with this format you have to keep playing well."
