NSW coach Phil Jaques will tap into the cricket brains of Steve Smith and David Warner when the time is right as he seeks to halt the state's slump.
Former Test opener Jaques was appointed the Blues' new coach on Tuesday, edging Brad Haddin in the race to replace sacked mentor Trent Johnston.
Smith and Warner are forbidden from representing their state this summer as part of year-long bans resulting from the Cape Town cheating scandal.
Jaques suggested it's too early to speculate whether the duo could help mentor some of the state's youngsters in 2018-19.
"When the time is right for them we'll work alongside Cricket Australia to utilise them as best we can," Jaques told reporters.

"They're both fantastic players with great experience, so I think we'd be mad not to use them when the time is right.
"We'll be trying to prepare them for whatever cricket they've got coming up. I know they're going to be playing some club cricket, which will be fantastic for the system.
"They're great professionals, they've made a mistake and paid the price."
The joke about NSW players receiving a baggy green at the same time they are presented with a baggy blue has become somewhat outdated recently.
The former powerhouse failed to win any of their final seven Sheffield Shield games in 2017-18, with critics questioning Cricket NSW's approach to player development.
Only one of Australia's past nine Test debutants came from NSW. That was batsman Nic Maddinson, who will move to Melbourne after missing out on a NSW contract for 2018-19.
Jaques wants to win Shield titles but also help usher the state's next generation, headlined by Australia's under-19 captain Jason Sangha, into international cricket.
"We don't just give away caps," he said.
"But there is a strong push to push these guys through and make sure they're on the right path to developing as good NSW players and hopefully future Australian players."
Jaques, who played 11 Tests, returned to Sydney last year after stepping down as Queensland coach for family reasons.
