A warning has been issued for a dangerous thunderstorm rumbling towards the Gold Coast, which is likely to produce very large hailstones and damaging winds.

The storm is moving northeast from the Scenic Rim region, and is forecast to hit Springbrook on Saturday afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

A severe thunderstorm warning has also been issued for other parts of the southeast Queensland, and authorities say heavy rainfall is possible.

"Remember to move your car undercover, secure loose outdoor items and brings pets inside," Queensland Fire and Rescue Services said.

Foul weather has been predicted across much of the rest of the state.

The expected storms are expected to ease across Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Sunday.
