Spring is nearly here but that doesn't mean the NSW flu season is over.
NSW Health says the latest data show 719 confirmed cases in the week ending August 26.
The recent tally is an increase from 639 cases in the previous week but a decrease from the 10,907 confirmed cases this time last year.
Flu activity has been relatively high in the Hunter, New England and lower mid north coast with 130 cases confirmed this week, NSW Health said.
NSW Health's Vicky Sheppeard said although temperatures are warming up, there is no room for complacency.
"The flu season got off to a much later start this year than last year, only officially kicking off in the first week of August," Dr Sheppeard said in a statement on Friday.
"It's important for the community to remember they still need to protect themselves against contracting it."
As a result of last year's flu season, which was the worst on record in NSW, the state government committed to spending $22.75 million on immunisation programs in 2017-18.
