Former federal Labor Party President and Bundjalung man, Warren Mundine has welcomed the return of Kevin Rudd to the prime minister's seat, saying he is popular among Aboriginal Australians.
"For the Labor party, for the government, I think it had to be done. I think it's the right outcome, and how amazing has been Kevin Rudd! This is the first time in history that I can think of, that a prime minister has made a return to the PM's seat, so it's incredible," he told NITV News.
"But at the same time, the undermining, the infighting...This just could not go on. So this government was falling apart and heading towards a disaster. At the end of the day it was the right decision.
"In the Aboriginal community, he is very popular, with the apology,...so if course he is immensely popular in the Aboriginal community, in fact I haven't heard anyone saying anything bad about him", Mr Mundine added.
