Golden State remain on track to create NBA history, the reigning champions beating San Antonio 92-86 to match the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' mark for most regular season victories.
The Warriors equalled Michael Jordan's Bulls' achievement with their 72nd win, and can take the record all for themselves with victory at home in their regular season finale against Memphis on Wednesday night.
The trip to San Antonio, against a Spurs team that had won 48 consecutive regular-season games at home, shaped as the crunch game in Golden State's chase for the record.
But Steph Curry's 37 points proved too much for the Spurs.
"We are in the moment and enjoying the ride, but the goal is to win a championship," Curry said.
"We've put ourselves in a great position to do something no other team has ever done.
"It's hard to step out of the locker room and understand the hoopla that comes with chasing the record.
"We want to go out and take advantage of an opportunity that may never come again."
Australian Andrew Bogut was two-from-three from the field as he finished with four points and four rebounds as Golden State broke a 33-game drought in San Antonio that dated to 1997.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points for San Antonio, who rested Tim Duncan, while Australian Patty Mills finished with seven points and two assists.
Elsewhere, Indiana clinched a playoff berth with a 129-105 win over Brooklyn.
Myles Turner was the Pacers' best with 28 points and 10 rebounds, in a match they never looked like losing after jumping out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter.
Dallas weren't able to secure their spot in the post-season when they went down 98-91 to the Los Angeles Clippers, the loss marking their first defeat in seven matches.
The race for the last Western Conference playoff spot heated up with Utah and Houston both claiming wins.
The Jazz maintained their one-game lead over the Rockets when they beat Denver 100-84, which included an 24-0 run in the third quarter.
Houston ensured the race would go to the final game, when James Harden scored 40 points to help them to a 130-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Toronto also made sure their pursuit of Cleveland for top spot of the Eastern Conference would continue after they beat the New York 93-89 at Madison Square Garden.
Meanwhile Washington, Miami and Milwaukee also had wins.
